About movaindia

What it is

movaindia is a reader. You ask a question or name a topic, and it finds the published text that answers it, selects the sentences that matter, and shows you where each one came from. It is not a search engine and it is not a chatbot.

Why it exists

Wikipedia holds an enormous amount of well-sourced knowledge, and finding the part that answers a particular question still takes work. movaindia does that work: it reads the article, ranks its sentences against your question, and puts the answer, the key points and the sources on one page.

Who made it

movaindia is an independent, open-source project. Its source code is public at github.com/galeoindus/movaindia, and so is its specification. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or operated by the Wikimedia Foundation, or by any of the services it reads from.

How information is collected

Every answer is assembled from published text: Wikipedia, Wikidata and Wikimedia Commons, the open book and text collections, and the open research services listed on the sources page. Nothing is generated. No model writes a sentence here — the sentences are the sources' own.

How sources are evaluated

Which services are asked depends on the question, and a source contributes only when its text actually matches the question. Sentences are ranked by how rare and how relevant their words are to what was asked, and by whether they carry what the question wants — a date for "when", a name for "who", a definition for "what". A source that does not answer is not shown at all, and a question the sources do not answer is reported as unanswered rather than filled in.

How citations work

Every answer names the article it came from, the edition, when it was retrieved, and the page's revision id, which pins the text to an exact version. Each point links to the section it was taken from, and each outside source links to its own page. The methodology page describes the whole process.

How corrections are handled

The text comes from the sources, so a correction is usually a correction there — and because every answer shows its revision id, you can see exactly which version was read. For anything wrong with movaindia itself — a broken page, a bad match, a missing source — please open an issue at github.com/galeoindus/movaindia/issues, or use the feedback page.
